Reset Your PC

On your last day of class, please reset your PC with one of the following methods to ensure your privacy.

Method 1: Reset via Settings (Recommended)

Steps to Reset Windows 11:
  1. Open Settings:
    • Press Windows key + I
    • Or click Start → Settings
  2. Navigate to System:
    • Click on "System" in the left sidebar
  3. Find Recovery options:
    • Scroll down and click on "Recovery"
  4. Reset this PC:
    • Under "Recovery options", click "Reset Your PC" next to "Reset this PC"
  5. Choose reset option:
    • "Remove everything" - Removes all personal files, apps, and settings
  6. Choose installation method:
    • "Cloud download" - Downloads fresh Windows from Microsoft (requires internet)
  7. Review settings and confirm:
    • Review your choices
    • Click "Reset" to begin the process
Note: The reset process can take 1-3 hours depending on your system and chosen options.

Method 2: Reset via Advanced Startup

When Windows won't start normally:
  1. Access Advanced Startup:
    • Hold Shift while clicking "Restart" from the Start menu
    • Or boot from Windows 11 installation media
  2. Choose an option:
    • Select "Troubleshoot"
  3. Reset this PC:
    • Click "Reset this PC"
  4. Follow the same options as Method 1

Method 3: Command Line (Advanced Users)

PowerShell Command:
  1. Open PowerShell as Administrator
  2. Run the reset command:
    systemreset -factoryreset
  3. Follow the on-screen prompts
Warning: This method requires advanced knowledge and should only be used by experienced users.

What Happens During Reset

"Keep my files" option:
  • Personal files remain
  • Installed apps removed
  • Settings reset to default
  • Drivers may need reinstalling
"Remove everything" option:
  • All personal files deleted
  • All apps removed
  • All settings reset
  • Fresh Windows installation

After Reset: What to Do Next

  1. Complete Windows Setup - Follow the initial setup wizard
  2. Connect to Internet - Connect to Wi-Fi or Ethernet
  3. Windows Updates - Install all available updates
  4. Reinstall Apps - Download and install needed applications
  5. Restore Data - Restore files from backup if needed
  6. Configure Settings - Set up preferences and accounts
